Schools

  • Workshops for Schools

At Hack Back CIC everything we deliver is designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups and organisations. Our aim is to work in partnership with schools to help them to achieve their aims by delivering sessions that are interactive, fun and aligned to the National Curriculum. We are specially trained in working with children with autism and regularly work in partnerships with school SENCOs. We use interaction with nature to assist learning. Our work involves learning about nature, learning from nature, and learning with nature. We use socratic questioning and effective psychological techniques to develop understanding. Sessions are delivered by psychologists who hold enhanced DBS clearance. Our sessions work best when reinforced throughout the academic year by teaching staff. We are fully qualified and insured.

  • Developing Emotional Intelligence / Social Skills

We design and deliver programmes which include a series of workshops aimed at helping children to develop Emotional Intelligence and social skills including children with Special Education Needs. We often work with vulnerable children, looked after children and children with challenging behaviours. Individual sessions include:  Understanding Feelings; Valuing others; Bullying – how words hurt; Pre-conceived ideas, stereotyping and labels; Self-esteem and confidence; Recognising our talents; Understanding body language etc. We are constantly developing new sessions to meet the needs of individuals and groups.

  • Healthy Living

We design and deliver programmes to impact on children’s attitude to food, weight and exercise. Our sessions use owls to get the message across about foods that are healthy to eat; that ideal weight is different for everyone but healthy weight is important for healthy living; and the importance of doing fun exercise and movement every day to keep us healthy.

  • Living Safely (Safeguarding)

We are currently working on sessions to get the message across about where it is OK to touch and the right to say “No”. For the well-being of Birds of Prey it is only safe to touch them on their chest. However, vets and carers may need to touch them in other places e.g. wings if the birds’ health and well-being is in danger.

Our latest book “Murray’s Wings” is currently (Spring 2017) being piloted in schools in Halton and Merseyside.

  • Reading With Owls

We run sessions for primary aged children aimed at encouraging reading for pleasure. Research supports that children who read for pleasure do better in school and in life. During the sessions we read books about owls and in every session the children get the opportunity to meet the Hack Back owls. Each child the receives a copy of the book we have read during the session. We are delighted to say that local Rotary clubs have supported several of these sessions in the North West UK. Runcorn Rotary Club have won an award for the work they have done in partnering and supporting Reading With Owls sessions in schools within the Runcorn area. A great deal of fun is had by children, teachers and Rotary Club members.
