Verreaux’s Eagle Owl

Zulu is another of our African species (hence her name). She looks a little like a cuddly toy but is one of our most powerful owls. In the wild Verraux’s Eagle Owls like to hunt monkeys, waiting until the monkeys go to sleep before snatching them out of their beds.

On a warm sunny day her eyelids turn pink enhancing her glamourous appearance.

However, in the wild those pink eyelids are used to scare away predators such as snakes.
